Manawatu, Wanganui & East Coast Region’s top builds announced

Manawatu, Wanganui & East Coast Region’s top builds announced

A Havelock North home and a Palmerston North renovation have been announced as this year’s finest Manawatu, Wanganui & East Coast homes, winning Supreme Awards in the Manawatu, Wanganui & East Coast Registered Master Builders 2016 House of the Year competition.

Redmond Builders and Construction Limited won eight regional awards with the Havelock North home, including the Manawatu, Wanganui & East Coast Registered Master Builders 2016 Supreme House of the Year, a Gold Award and Category win for the New Home over $2 million award. The company also won the Craftsmanship Award, the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award, the Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award, the Outdoor Living Award, and the Manawatu Concrete Polishing Interior Design Award for the same property.

Avenue Construction Limited was awarded the Manawatu, Wanganui & East Coast Registered Master Builders 2016 Supreme Renovation of the Year, a Gold Award and Category win for the Master Build Services Renovation Award up to $250,000.

Judges called the Havelock North new build an elegantly designed family home located on a private site overlooking the Tuki Tuki River.

“This home is an outstanding example of a great team working together to create a beautiful home. It displays supreme workmanship with a combination of materials including cedar weather boards, cedar shingle roofing and double-hung timber windows. The in-situ exposed concrete fireplaces strengthen the interior and the timber flooring adds warmth.

“Bespoke internal panelling line the walls and detailed ceilings are featured in every room. Black steel internal glazed doors divide the spaces when required while remaining a piece of art.

“Every aspect of the home has been carefully thought through from the start of the foundations to the detailed chimneys. This home was an absolute pleasure to judge.”

Judges called the winning Palmerston North renovation outstanding and a carefully crafted response to meet the clients’ requirements.

“A combined ensuite and bathroom has been designed to be easily accessed from both the master bedroom and the hallway servicing all the upstairs bedrooms. The master bedroom has been enlarged, incorporating new wardrobes.

“Roof alterations accommodate the renovation, and all work has been done in a manner that reflects the character of the existing home, all of which clearly challenged the limitations of the budget.”

The results of the regional competition were revealed at a gala dinner on 8 July at the Silks Lounge at the Palmerston North Race Course. The winning builds were celebrated by members of the Manawatu, Wanganui & East Coast Registered Master Builders Association and members of the local construction industry.

There were 12 Gold Award winners from Manawatu, Wanganui & East Coast which will now be judged against Gold Award winners from around the country to find the National Gold Reserve finalists.

National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for the 2016 House of the Year and Renovation of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner on 26 November at The Langham in Auckland.

The Awards are made possible through the support of PlaceMakers, Master Build Services, GIB, Nulook, Future-Proof Building, Carters, Plumbing World, Resene and Bunnings Trade.

About the Registered Master Builders 2016 House of the Year

The competition is divided into two parts – the first is at a regional level, the second at a national level. Gold, Silver and Bronze Award winners are determined using a points-based system. These award-winners are announced at 10 regional events held throughout New Zealand during July and August.

The top local Gold Award winners become Gold Reserve National Finalists. The national finalists are then re-judged by a panel of judges who determine the overall national winners, which are announced at the National event in Auckland on 26 November.
