Struggling to cope with the growing demands of family life, a 2.5-bedroom Wellington home was in desperate need of some upsizing. The answer? Replace an old bathroom/laundry lean-to at the back of the house with a striking, two-storey addition.

The lower level of the extension features a new family bathroom, laundry and storage room. Upstairs, Mum and Dad are in heaven thanks to their new master retreat with walk-in wardrobe, ensuite and stunning views across the neighbourhood.

An insulated concrete slab was laid and topped with recycled rimu tongue-and-groove floorboards. These were sanded and sealed to match the original flooring in the kitchen. Continuing the theme, rimu has been used for all reveals, architraves and skirting. White herringbone tiles grace the new family bathroom.

The extension is packaged to perfection in vertical cedar shiplap and capped off with corrugated steel roofing. The end result is a practical addition to family life with a cosy escape upstairs that the relieved parents can call their own.
