Rock-shaped and taking inspiration from the elements, this multi-level home stands out with its unusual organic lines. Ascending through the house is a journey through dramatic and curvaceous spaces. The house was built on a steep hillside to gain views of the harbour, and to free up the flat area at the front for a lawn and swimming pool. Its sculptural form projects out over the carport and entry and is anchored to the ground with an angled in situ concrete pier, while the roof plane echoes the angle of the sloping land. An expansive outdoor living terrace has been carved out of its monolithic form.

Setting it apart from the street is a highly engineered rigid steel frame structure, clad in black, glazed terracotta tiles, meaning no scaffolding will ever be required for repainting. It is almost a completely maintenance-free house. Contrasting its enigmatic exterior, the interiors are light and airy with pale timber floors and ceilings, the effect both serene and uplifting. Although architecturally and structurally ambitious, the house functions as a family home, and is both robust and restorative. Among its sustainable features is rainwater collection, 85kW of solar panels and a large battery pack. It also has a lift, futureproofing it for generations to come.
