This year we are celebrating 30 Years of House of the Year! Over the next few months we are going to be shining a light on some of the people who have played a massive part in the competition. Keep an eye out on our channels as our members share some of their best memories as a builder.
Triple Star Management
“I had initially started a law degree and quickly realised I didn’t want to spend my life solving other people’s problems. But as I got older and wiser I realised that all jobs are essentially problem solving. I ended up falling into building because of a love of hard work and an appreciation of tangible results. My first job as a builder was at the Powder Keg in Ohakune in 1993 with a small team of really passionate guys who me showed how diverse and interesting building can be.
I started Triple Star in 2008 after moving to Queenstown. Prior to this I was working as an independent project manager, building architecturally designed homes in Wellington. A highlight for me and our company was being appointed as the project manager and subsequently the main contractor to construct the Aro Ha Wellness Retreat near Glenorchy. The project went on to win the National Tourism and Leisure Project category at the Commercial Project Awards and to this day I am represented on their Board.
The opportunities that exist within the building industry are seemingly limitless as technology and design are always moving ahead. It is no accident we always have a steady number of apprentices working with us. Our most senior builder, Jack Turnbull, spends a lot of time mentoring apprentices to ensure they get the relevant experience. We are all responsible for ensuring well-trained and skilled people are entering the industry. We also feel strongly about encouraging and increasing the involvement of women in the industry.
Alongside the Commercial Project Awards, we’ve also entered House of the Year many times and have had some great successes.
The best thing about winning awards is that it shows our team that they can be the best. As a reasonably young company and team, we hope we can replicate this again in the future. Personally for me it shows that hard work pays off. It’s exciting times.” – Peter Campbell, Triple Star Management and 2020 Supreme House of the Year winner.
