Visitors to this Clevedon home are greeted by a 2m cedar pivot door, and when they step inside they see full-height steel joinery and cedar ceilings to a gallery and custom fi replace. The four-bedroom, three-bathroom coastal haven is a striking masterpiece.

The natural beauty of the site was the main inspiration for this south-of-Auckland home. The sharp lines of the cedar-clad exterior walls helped to shape the structure, providing a canvas for a home that looks truly in its element. Pitched sarked ceilings up to 6.5m complete the form. Open-plan morning and evening living spaces showcase the architect’s vision and there’s plenty of space for entertaining and relaxing.

In the kitchen, elegance was paramount – a DBJ kitchen with custom cabinetry, brass detailing and a quartzite stone benchtop were installed. The kitchen is as much a centrepiece as a cooking-dining space. A scullery with custom cabinetry sits behind it.

In the main ensuite, pistachio limestone tiles with a flamed, tumbled finish line the walls. The custom-built cabinetry with double-top mounted bowls over a slim stone top and aged brass tapware are timeless.
