Manawatu, Whanganui and Taranaki region’s top home builds announced 6 July 2018

Manawatu, Whanganui and Taranaki region’s top home builds announced 6 July 2018

A Palmerston North home described as ‘a model for New Zealand’s affordable homes’ has taken out this year’s Supreme Award in the Manawatu, Whanganui & Taranaki Registered Master Builders 2018 House of the Year competition.

Avenue Construction Limited won five regional awards at the competition. They were awarded the Manawatu, Whanganui & Taranaki Registered Master Builders 2018 Supreme House of the Year, a Gold Award and Category win for the Resene New Home up to $450,000 award for their Palmerston North home. They were also awarded the Craftmanship Award and the Sustainability Award for the same home.

Judges said the winning House of the Year demonstrates that size does not matter when it comes to beauty and function. This smaller home won over the judges with its simple form, cladding and finishes.

“It has met the owners exacting construction detail and finish requirements, with sustainable goals, all of which have been achieved under the tight budget,” they said.

“This has presented a family home at its best and a model for the country’s affordable homes.

“Both the Owner and Contractor should be justly proud of their achievements.”

Avenue Construction has been entering the House of the Year Awards since the competition started 28 years ago. In 2016, they were awarded the national category winner for the Master Build Services Renovation Award up to $250,000.

The results of the regional competition were revealed at a gala dinner on 6 July at the Awapuni Racecourse in Palmerston North. The winning builds were celebrated by Taranaki and Manawatu & Whanganui Registered Master Builders Association members and colleagues from the local construction industry.

There were 12 Gold Award winners from the Manawatu, Whanganui and Taranaki region which will now be judged against Gold Award winners from around the country to find the National Gold Reserve finalists. National category winners and the Registered Master Builders
Supreme Awards for House of the Year and Renovation of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner on 24 November at the Cordis Hotel in Auckland.

The Awards are made possible through the support of PlaceMakers, Master Build 10-year Guarantee, GIB, Nulook, CARTERS, Plumbing World, Resene and Bunnings Trade.

About the Registered Master Builders 2018 House of the Year

The competition is divided into two parts – the first is at a regional level, the second at a national level. Gold, Silver and Bronze Award winners are determined using a points-based system. These award-winners are announced at 10 regional events held throughout New Zealand during July and August.

The top local Gold Award winners become Gold Reserve National Finalists. The national finalists are then re-judged by a panel of judges who determine the overall national winners, which are announced at the National event in Auckland on 24 November.
