Q & A with East Coast interior designer Amber Wallace 2019

How do you describe your style?

Ever changing. We’re constantly travelling and finding new inspirations and this is reflected in both my home and the store. I tend towards a relaxed, eclectic and cohesive blend of all the things I love. I’m not dictated by what’s on trend.

What inspires you about living where you do?

We’re so lucky to call this beautiful region home. The Hawke’s Bay has these dusky hues that are so unique and beautiful. I am inspired daily by the muted colour palette we have as our backdrop. It fits perfectly with my love of natural tones.

What’s the last thing you bought for your home?

My honey sheepskin.

Favourite room in the house?

The lounge/family area is the haven of the home and my favourite room. It’s where we all gather. The window nook is a place to sit and reflect throughout each season.

Trend you wish would make a comeback?

Double denim – why not?

Money no object, what would you get for your home?

An incredible outdoor entertaining area. The Hawke’s Bay climate means we spend a lot of time outdoors and it would be magic to create a resort-style space at our back door.

Where would you spend the bulk of your renovation budget?

The kitchen and bathroom – it’s always money well spent in these rooms. I love to cook and entertain so having a well-designed kitchen makes it enjoyable.

What would you go budget on?

I know what I wouldn’t go budget on! That’s the furniture and finishing touches. I go to so many beautiful homes and stunning new builds and they are let down with the final layer. It’s the details that bring a home to life.

You’ve got a day to refresh your house – what do you do?

I’d forage and fill the house with lush greens in my favourite collected vessels. I’m also a big believer that new cushions are the quickest way to change the whole feel of a space and inject new life.

What should every home have?

Pieces you love. Fill your home with objects that mean something to you, special things that you collect over the years and that are a reflection of you and your life. This is what makes it your home.
