How did you end up in interiors?
I’ve been in sales and marketing in the travel and tourism industry for 17-plus years, however I’ve always had a passion for interior design, right from when I was little. I used to change my room around every week. I had the opportunity to be part of the first pop-up shops in New Zealand with Styledirect. When I moved to New Plymouth, White Sugaa and Co was an idea to create a by-appointment designer showroom in our show home, that was developed over a glass of wine.
What do you wish people knew about interiors and interior design?
It’s okay not to limit yourself with a style. If you love a piece then it will always work in somehow.
What’s your personal interiors style?
My style is minimalist and fresh with a mixture of black, white and grey. I’m in love with concrete and fresh flowers. I only have pieces in my home that have a purpose or that I love. Our home is always evolving.
Can you share one of your style secrets?
Less is more.
If money was no object, what would you include in every job?
A fabulous interior designer.
Anything you can save on?
There are loads of ways to save money – it’s about being smart and savvy with how you spend your money and where it’s most important to spend it, this is where someone like myself can help.
What’s the next big thing interiors-wise?
Texture, texture, texture. Navy and loads of fresh greens. Matte appliances.
Easiest way to transform a home?
By changing your furniture around. The right furniture placement is so important and it can dramatically change the look of a room without spending any money.
Your dream home?
It’s all about the summer. A beach house or the good old Kiwi bach. The beach, good company, the barbecue going, and a glass of wine – this is what makes a home.
