Stratford-upon-haven with Marley

With Kym working alongside the couple’s architect, and builders in the family, the project got off to a flying start.  The team crossed the finish line 18 months later with an impressive property in which every carefully chosen component – from the concrete-block feature wall to the Marley spouting – works beautifully.

The house, built just a kilometre away from the couple’s business, ITM Stratford, has been constructed with many special features – and a few surprises. As well as a window splashback overlooking the front of the property, you’ll find a cleverly executed nod to the 1970s – a sunken lounge. The latter, with three steps leading down to Cosy Central, has been pulled off in a stylish, contemporary manner.

If you can haul yourself out of this comfy and relaxing space, feast your eyes on the combination of white, grey concrete and timber, punctuated with black accents, used throughout the interior of the home. Jet-back basins and a bath catch the eye in one of the bathrooms, and, by the way, the couple enjoys his-and-hers ensuites off the main bedroom. Talk about luxury.

Kym and Mike have also been creative in their approach to the industrial aesthetic they wanted for their new house. Case in point: a shipping container door has been built into the scullery. Genius.

Another surprise awaits – a cinema for the movie-buff couple. This is no multi-use media room, rather it’s a bona fide mini-theatre with cinema doors, an illuminated sign, curtains, luxurious seats and big screen. Popcorn anyone?

Apart from the appropriately dark cinema, the house is light and airy, thanks to 17 skylights and the tasteful neutral palette.

The exterior, built with crisp white low-maintenance Rockcote and concrete blocks, is just as impressive, and the timber accents help the house ease into its rural setting.

Kym and Mike chose on-trend black Marley Stratus Design Series® spouting and RP80® downpipes to fit in with the modern-industrial look of their home. These are low maintenance, having been designed for New Zealand’s harsh sun and conditions, and have a 15-year guarantee. There’s something else in the Marley products’ favour – they’re made right here in New Zealand.

We chose Marley Stratus Design Series® Typhoon® spouting and RP80® downpipes in black because it framed the house perfectly for the modern-industrial look. The stylish half-round Typhoon® profile has excellent capacity and flow characteristics. Using internal brackets gives a smooth, contemporary look. It’s available in five colours and white, although black is very much on trend at the moment.

Proudly made in New Zealand and fully UV resistant to handle our harsh summer sun, high UV levels and long, hot days. Marley Stratus Design Series® will stand the test of time and we offer a 15-year guarantee to back that up.
