Taranaki's 2016 House of the Year award winners


Taranaki's top houses have been praised for their expert design and detailing at this year's House of the Year awards. 

The winners of the Taranaki Registered Master Builders 2016 House of the Year awards were announced on Friday with Gareth Collins Building Limited winning the Supreme House of the Year award and David Fabish Limited winning the the Supreme Renovation of the Year. 

Collins won four regional awards for a home built in Strandon, including a Gold Award and category win for the Nulook New Home in the $650,000 to $1 million category and the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award. 


Gareth Collins Building Limited also won the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award in their winning house in Strandon, New Plymouth.

Fabish also took out a Gold Award and category win in the over $500,000 Renovation Award  for a home in Oakura.  

Judges praised the skilled design of Collins' Strandon house, which was built on a particularly narrow site. 


David Fabish Limited renovated home in Oakura, Taranaki, won this year's Supreme Award Taranaki Registered Master Builders Renovation of the Year.

"The home is designed with a clever interplay of space and light. 

"With a combination of brick veneer, black linea board and careful detailing, this home not only reflects the architecture of the neighbouring homes but provides a home designed for comfortable living," they said. 

Judges called Fabish a "deserving winner" of the Renovation of the Year award. 

David Fabish Limited also won a Gold Award and won Category Winner Renovation Award over $500,000.

"A complete transformation of this property into something special has been the result of the home owner, architect and builder working effectively together to achieve the best result." 

The results were announced on Friday night at a gala dinner.

The 10 Gold Award winners from Taranaki would now be judged against Gold Award winners from around New Zealand to find the National Gold Reserve finalists. 

National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for the 2016 House of the Year and Renovation of the Year will be announced in Auckland on November 26.
