Wellington and Wairarapa region’s top home builds announced 2018

Wellington and Wairarapa region’s top home builds announced

A Brooklyn home and an Eastbourne renovation have won this year’s Supreme Awards in the Wellington Wairarapa Registered Master Builders 2018 House of the Year competition.

Planit Construction won six regional awards at the competition. They were awarded the Wellington Wairarapa Registered Master Builders 2018 Supreme House of the Year, a Gold Award and Category win for the New Home over $2 million award for their Brooklyn home. They were also awarded the Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award, the Interior Design Award and the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award.

Willie Davis Limited was awarded the Wellington Wairarapa Registered Master Builders 2018 Supreme Renovation of the Year, along with a Gold Award and Category win for the Bunnings Renovation $500,000 - $1 million award. They were also awarded the Craftmanship Award.

Judges said the winning House of the Year was built on an extremely exposed site and was well designed to maximise the expansive views of Wellington.

“It allows for outdoor living areas that give shelter from the, sometimes, extreme windy conditions. Use of natural products anchor this house to its site, while being well positioned to make use of all day sun.

“This well detailed and finished home is a true example of the contractor’s skill. The owner and builder should be very proud of this project.”

Judges said the winning Renovation of the Year was a complex renovation that has been finished to a very high standard.

“Many of the internal and external walls, and the roof structure, were demolished. A lot of work was required to straighten and strengthen existing walls and it is impossible to differentiate the new from the existing.

“The renovation has cleverly modernised the existing building. The design is creative, innovative and is consistent inside and out. This beautifully crafted modern home is better insulated and maximises the fantastic sea views.”

The results of the regional competition were revealed at a gala dinner on 28 July at Te Papa in Wellington. The winning builds were celebrated by Wellington Wairarapa Registered Master Builders Association members and colleagues from the local construction industry.

There were 14 Gold Award winners from the Wellington Wairarapa region which will now be judged against Gold Award winners from around the country to find the National Gold Reserve finalists.

National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for House of the Year and Renovation of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner on 24 November at the Cordis Hotel in Auckland.

The Awards are made possible through the support of PlaceMakers, Master Build 10-year Guarantee, GIB, Nulook, CARTERS, Plumbing World, Resene and Bunnings Trade.
