Skipping the rat race altogether, the creators of this crafty Coromandel getaway opted to build their first family bach ahead of a first family home. They don’t regret it for a second. There’s a large living area, generous deck and room to sleep eight in this 150sqm, two-bedroom, loft-style beach house. Designed and built specifically for the section, the strong gable form takes inspiration from a marae. Encased in plywood, the mezzanine blends seamlessly into the open-plan kitchen and lounge space below. Outdoor living unfolds naturally down the sloping site. A separate outhouse contains a toilet and shower well suited to bach life. Constructed completely from timber, this laidback home will be left to age gracefully. Natural weathering will allow it to blend further into its environment over time. Cedar features to the front and back entrances define these areas nicely. This is a very peaceful holiday retreat, promising family and friends plenty of good times now and into the future.
