The aim in renovating this home on the edge of Tauranga Harbour was to create a sense of immediate relaxation. Newly updated for modern life, the work undertaken has blown the roof off what was once a chilly bin of a house, built in 1989. The existing roof was removed and rebuilt to create the large overhangs, which offer shade and give the harbourside home a nautical feel. Fresh cladding of ply and batten complements the roofline and injects a good dose of Kiwi character. Existing walls have been reconfigured to enhance the flow and function of kitchen, dining, living and outdoor spaces. A wood burner creates wonderful ambience on cold days. Passive solar design allows the exposed concrete floor to absorb and redistribute the sun’s warmth. A natural colour palette creates a relaxed air of understated elegance. Tasteful fixtures and fittings speak for themselves. With enhanced indoor-outdoor flow, it’s easier than ever to appreciate this serene waterside setting. This renovation will stand the test of time, so much so, the home has won the Master Build 10-Year Guarantee Renovation up to $500,000 National title.
