This character home in the established Strowan suburb has been given a new lease of life with a sympathetic yet dramatic extension. The addition is so beautifully in keeping with the original home, it’s hard to tell where old meets new. The seamless renovation so impressed the judges, they bestowed the National Renovation up to $500,000 award on it.

Internal French doors, positioned at the end of a wide hallway, flow into a stunning and spacious new living room. Traditional with a few modern twists, this room is packed with features. A built-in study space is hidden behind a large sliding door. A woodburner set in a tiled surround makes this a warm, inviting sanctuary. Recessed lighting is a lovely addition, ensuring clean lines and open space. Two sets of French doors flow to improved alfresco living areas.

The remarkable ceiling to the new veranda echoes the rimu floors within. Handcrafted rimu window joinery and sculpted posts showcase expert craftsmanship.

A harmonious exterior paint palette allows the new extension to relax into the established grounds.

A comfortable and cosy new bedroom was also created, making this home a four-bedroom dream.
