A sloping site with tapering boundaries inspired this imaginative design in north Hamilton. The four-bedroom home offers unique style and incredible family functionality as well as views over the city.

The clients’ brief was for a slight industrial feel inside. This is achieved through the use of concrete flooring, black window joinery and exposed steel framework in a mezzanine area above the kitchen.

Plywood detailing makes a feature of the 40-degree pitched raking ceiling above the open-plan living/dining/kitchen area. A double-sided fireplace creates separation and adds a nice ambience in these rooms.

Underfloor heating enhances the inviting warmth in the winter months. Two outdoor deck areas are well positioned off the living spaces, providing additional options for entertaining over summer.

The home’s cladding is primarily black with warm wood tones to soften appearances. The two bathrooms subtly echo this exterior aesthetic.

Ideal for family life, this home is also big on storage with three-car garaging and a huge attic space.
