This project was inspired by the opportunity to strengthen and restore a character 135-year-old former church. Working entirely within the envelope of the original church, the result – which won the National Supreme Renovation Award and Bunnings Renovation over $1 million – is three spacious townhouses each adorned with original features, making for unique living spaces in seaside Wellington.

Each apartment has three generously sized bedrooms and plenty of spacious open-plan living. Natural oak boards radiate colour and warmth from the floor level and up through the sweeping stairways.

Internally, each apartment features original high stud timber ceilings. Recessed balconies within the roof line provide indoor-outdoor flow and enhance natural light inside.

Each front entrance features upcycled stained glass panes, originally set above the church altar, helping to connect the apartments to the previous spirit of the building.

The interior spaces are a cohesive mix of modern, high-end finishings, carefully chosen to complement original features.
