At first glance, it’s easy to miss the meticulously crafted minutiae of this split-level brick and cedar-clad home. But look a little closer and all is revealed – like the way the cross-hatched ceiling aligns from one room to the next, or the pattern symmetry in cedar boards on either side of every window, door and corner, inside and out. Many hours were spent fabricating and hand-routing timber to guarantee this effect.

The list of details goes on: the vitex hardwood deck and stair construction that avoids view-obstructing handrails and the window seats that hide valuable storage space.

What is noticeable is the home’s harmonious, easy-to-live-in ambience. The three-bedroom house, built for an architectural designer and his green-fingered partner, is wedged into the site to maximise spectacular harbour views and create precious space for raised garden beds.

Every angle has been carefully considered, from squared-off architraves around over-height doors to the way staggered brickwork casts changing shadows through the day. This timeless 179sqm home proves that details – even the hidden ones – matter.
