A sympathetic approach was needed to renovate and extend this beautiful character house built more than a century ago. So, the owners, former clients of Calley Homes, called in the building firm to carry out the sensitive project – an addition with living and entertaining spaces, inside and out. The renovation included an open-plan kitchen with scullery, plus dining spaces that seamlessly link to two outdoor areas. The first, a louvre-covered deck leading off the dining room, is an alfresco delight serving up views of Tauranga harbour. The other is a sheltered patio leading off the kitchen and set into the hillside. Inside, parquet timber flooring has been added and a kitchen – heritage in style and colour, but with all the modern advantages – has been installed. This is at the centre of the new space and features lighting that brings a sense of drama and wow-factor. Every detail here has been carefully considered and crafted – even the new architectural windows had to fit with the originals. It’s clear the heritage home has been given the love and respect it deserves, and no stone has been left unturned.
