Imagination and innovation were required to transform this tired house into this personality-packed beauty. While it had good bones, the home needed to be completely re-clad and re-roofed while inside, the ceilings and walls needed to be re-lined. Fortunately, the building team was up to the challenge. Things are off to a great start on the exterior with the addition of gables and new black James Hardie Linea weatherboard and tongue-and-groove cedar cladding. Cedar is also used to great effect at the back of the house to create a large covered outdoor space which connects to the garden. Inside, the transformation is just as dramatic, with vaulted ceilings, scissor trusses and skylights creating a feeling of height and spaciousness. The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area features Tasmanian blackwood flooring and glass sliders connect inside and out. Bifold windows in the kitchen ensure it’s easy to cater for barbecues, while the large scullery keeps things tidy. Two sizeable bedrooms and a laundry complete the ground floor but up the floating timber-tread stairs lies the main bedroom with its roomy walk-in wardrobe and tiled ensuite. Sweet dreams are made of this.
