The hallmark of a skilled renovation is the seamless melding of the old with the new. This is especially true in projects that involve character homes, which require a sensitive approach and a high level of craftsmanship. This is a template for how to do it well. Hardy Construction has breathed new life into the 100-year-old villa without deviating from its historical DNA or diluting any of its obvious charm. The team has skilfully turned back the clock, allowing residents to enjoy warmth, light, comfort and indoor-outdoor flow for decades to come. The renovation involved reconfiguring rooms, including converting a bedroom into a main suite with walk-in robe and ensuite. The kitchen was moved and expanded, and this and the main bedroom were given doors leading to a hardwood deck. New plasterboard and paint make the interior feel fresh, but these haven’t come at the expense of the character. The pared-back yet elegant white kitchen doesn’t compete with the architecture, and timber floorboards, architraves and skirtings have been retained. From the outside, you’d never guess at the magic that has been conjured here. Every part of the seamless, stylish upgrade has been in tune with the original house, resulting in happy owners.
