Renovation on a large scale has updated and future proofed this 25-year-old home. For better street appeal and to give a more spacious feel to the living areas, the front of the home was modified to allow 2.7-metre-high ceilings. The motorsport enthusiast owner can now escape to watch the big screen in the media room addition. With a bar area and separate toilet and shower, it doubles as a space for functions and extra living quarters when extended family stay.

The layout has been modified to make a more free -flowing home. Moving the entrance from mid driveway to the front of the house and the addition of two alfresco areas has been a welcome change. Everything is now inviting and warm with insulation added to every exterior and interior wall which, along with sound walls to the main bedroom, all work to keep the noise down. The owners of the property had a reduce-and-recycle mantra for the project. As a result any removed timber was passed on to people in need, joinery glass and aluminium was recycled, concrete tiles were given away and electrical wires and copper recycled. Brick facades were retained and painted to look brand new and, with the addition of painted weatherboards, the house now has a coastal feel fitting of its Papamoa beach location.
