The Alaskan yellow cedar adorning the exterior of this Te Anau treasure was chosen for its durability and ability to withstand the elements as much as the aesthetically pleasing way it blends with the natural environment. Topped off with a roofline that mirrors the majestic mountains, this is a home that sits comfortably in its semi-rural setting and is pleasing to the eye. Nothing displeases on the inside either. Walls are lined in birch ply and are designed with negative detailing for a minimalist look that flows through to the polished-concrete floor. This, in turn, reflects light streaming in through floor-to-ceiling windows that are a frame to the 360-degree lake and mountain views. Underfloor heating keeps bare feet happy year-round with solar panels making everything energy efficient.
From the main entrance it’s left for the bedrooms with utilities down the southern face, or right for open-plan living with a streamlined kitchen that is set back but still part of the action. A vast feature window serves as a splashback and provides views out to the south while glass doors lead out to an eastern deck. Outdoor spaces are plentiful with expansive purpleheart decking extending out from the living area, all three bedrooms, and down to an outdoor shower and spa for complete immersion in the native flora and fauna.
