Utsukushii Uchi, which translates to ‘beautiful home’ in English, is the name of this Japanese inspired oasis of refined luxury that seamlessly blends form and function. Traditional Japanese materials and building practices have been used throughout and are clearly referenced from the outset with a garage door framed to look like a shoji screen. Sustainably grown yakisugi cedar cladding beautifies the facade that has a modern, mono-pitched roof and deep eaves with exposed rafters. Formal landscaping completes the Eastern aesthetic.

The picture of serenity continues inside with skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows flooding the living spaces with natural light. Finely detailed oak joinery extends beyond the kitchen to the cupboards and seat in the entrance and creates a coffee station, a bar and study nook. Polished concrete floors flow through corner-opening doors to covered decking and a patio with built-in seating around a fire pit. Two bedrooms, a bathroom and powder room enjoy privacy through a shoji slider off to one side of the living with a TV room, main suite and laundry off the other. The final touch of modern Japanese luxury is the spa-inspired ensuite with a yakisugi wall and a shoji screen that opens the bathtub to the bedroom and the garden beyond.
