This charming conversion of an old milking shed was designed to complement the grandeur of the adjacent heritage villa. A Knight Design & Build has transformed it from a rustic relic into a modern rural retreat that can effortlessly accommodate family guests, as a harmonious extension of the villa. The exterior retains the authenticity of its agricultural roots, with a board-and-batten aesthetic and sleek silhouette. Exposed oak rafters, polished concrete floors, grooved panelling and barn-door sliders throughout balance the interior’s rustic elements with sleek, minimalist design. Original materials were recycled and used where possible as a nod to the history of the building.

The house has excellent indoor-outdoor flow with both sides of the living spaces opening to the greenery outside, and there is clever use of space – a simple window seat is ideal for the dining area. In the main bedroom suite, painted a soft sage green, sliding doors also open out onto the deck and the lush garden landscape. The house echoes the villa’s architectural grace while carving its own identity as a rural haven, inviting the extended family to bask in the tranquillity of the countryside.
