Being absolute beachfront is bliss, but buildings can take a battering from the elements. In this expert renovation, a beloved family bach has been given everything it needs to withstand coastal conditions. Think robust aluminium cladding, soffits and roofing. Vertical Flashclad Dualbord, mimics the original board-and-batten exterior. That’s not all the 150sqm house received in this thoughtful modernisation. A pool, louvre roofs to extend the external living spaces, an internal laundry and a bunkroom for younger generations are welcome additions to the sunny holiday bolthole. Every space has been revamped: the main bedroom with its own lounge, the kitchen-dining space and another bedroom – all facing the ocean.

Although compact, the bach has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and two living spaces, all cleverly designed to provide spaces for multiple holidaying families. Home comforts include a ceiling heat pump, air conditioning and a smart security system that can be monitored remotely. An added focus was components that were environmentally friendly and that added energy efficiency to the bach. Joinery with thermally efficient frames and double glazing ensure it’s comfy year round – cool in summer and cosy in winter. Also crucial to the project were low-maintenance and long-lasting materials that can withstand the beachfront salt spray and winds.
