When the owners of this Waihi Beach property approached Stroud Homes, their brief was simple: they wanted a beautiful holiday home that captured the ocean views and stood out in the street. There was instant chemistry with Stroud’s Seaview 278 design for these reasons and because it suited their sloping section. An environmentally minded build saw the construction of a ground-floor slab with rear timber sub floor for the upper level to minimise earthworks. Excavated soil was stockpiled on site and used to raise the front of the section to a more-level height.
All materials used were sourced from local suppliers and manufacturers, and the home’s design takes advantage of front, rear and side views through generous glazing and decking. The open-plan kitchen includes a large butler’s pantry and connects to living and dining areas that flow to the front balcony. The main bedroom comes complete with walk-in robe and a spacious ensuite, while two additional bedrooms surround a child’s retreat. A media room can be found downstairs alongside an additional bedroom and bathroom – invaluable space for extended family holidays. Cedar brings a softness to the striking doublegabled facade that achieves the wow-factor that was also part of the brief.
