From the moment you set eyes on Prospect House, it’s clear this is much more than a family home. The 275sqm build is also a paradise in the suburbs. Top-of-the-line materials, communal spaces centred around suntrap courtyards and an oasis with in-ground pool combine to beautifully blur the line between indoors and out. The four-bedroom, three-bathroom house, inspired by a relative’s mid-century property, is also a display case for the smarts and craftsmanship of architects MAUD and the interiors by at.space. You can see it in the two-storey atrium featuring cedar, stone and clerestory windows that strike just the right balance between privacy and glimpses inside.

It continues with timber beams extending into a lush garden court and the pool courtyard with a glazed link connecting living areas. Meticulous detailing is showcased in the limestone batons, cedar sarking, interior gardens and crazy paving that flows from inside to out. Key structural elements, such as exposed stained timber beams and complex concrete slabs below the crazy paving, demanded exceptional precision and collaboration across trades. This build required more than 12,000 batons and almost 9000 lineal metres of cedar — plus exceptional problem-solving skills to excavate tonnes of volcanic rock. Beauty, comfort and environmental responsibility — this is a masterpiece in every way.
