Tucked away on a generous city-fringe site, this 1990s home has been dramatically reimagined. What began as a tired plaster-clad structure is now a contemporary, light-filled residence designed by awardwinning architect Guy Tarrant. Although the original footprint was only modestly expanded, the renovation was extensive. Large-scale demolition made way for a modern rebuild that retained the garage, parts of the ground-floor wall structure and the first-level floor.

The exterior now boasts a refined, low-maintenance palette of New Zealand-made bricks, coloured steel and warm cedar accents, blending durability with aesthetic appeal. Inside, the brickwork continues as a tactile expression, complemented by maple joinery and carefully selected floor tiles. Together, these materials lend texture and warmth to the cleanlined interiors, beneath cathedral ceilings with exposed structural trusses. Every detail has been thoughtfully resolved, from the bespoke banquette to subtle lighting and smart spatial planning. Outdoors, the addition of a swimming pool and fully landscaped gardens enhances the sense of sanctuary. The result is a cohesive home designed for both comfort and sophistication. Completed over 15 months, the project exceeded expectations for both builder and owners ― a testament to collaboration, precision and design integrity.
