This dark delight on the shores of Tauranga Harbour deliberately appears low key to blend into its environs but is, in fact, all about thoughtful laidback luxe. The exterior, for example, has black in-situ concrete walls with a surface that emulates the bark of the nearby pōhutukawa tree. That’s the sort of detail that’s a hallmark of the 227sqm three-bedroom home. Inside, concrete makes a welcome reappearance and is offset by light hemlock timber walls and ceilings. Even the garage is given the timber treatment: ply lines the walls and has negative detail that emphasises the craftsmanship at play.
Dreamy living spaces, which are studies in the use of organic materials and shades, appear to glide toward the covered outdoor relaxing and entertaining zone, which faces the water. The moody tones are highlighted by down-lighting and skylights, reinforced with luxury touches such as golden textured splashback tiles and marble in the kitchen. Bedrooms continue the theme of natural opulence .The main suite has a timber-lined ensuite with glass freestanding bath, custom dressing room and access to a sheltered deck. One of the other bedrooms has in-built bunk beds. Hydroponic underfloor heating, a gas fire and exterior woodburner keeps residents warm in winter and automation controls lighting. Nothing has been left to chance here.
