The renovation and extension of this penthouse deserved pinnacle-of-perfection craftsmanship, and that’s what was delivered. The 380sqm apartment now enjoys a masterpiece interior — as well as views of the forest, mountains and Lake Wakatipu from both the interior and terrace. It’s seamless — a stellar example of how to do lavish yet laidback — but it took a good deal of skill to get to this point. In fact, a complete strip-out involving demolition of all internal wall framing, plumbing and electrics was required before the main living area could be extended onto the terrace. Judging by the results, the effort, expense and meticulous workmanship have all been worth it.

Where to start in the two-level, five-bedroom, four-bathroom sanctuary? Design features include bespoke joinery, timber wall panelling and floor-to-ceiling bathroom tiles. On the lower level are living areas that ease out to the terrace with a louvre roof, spa pool and access to an outdoor kitchen. You’ll also find three bedrooms with ensuites, media room, laundry, powder room and a steam sauna crafted from hemlock timber. Take the stairs to find the main bedroom with ensuite, powder room and dressing room with make-up station. Another room up here can be an extra bedroom or office. A state-of-the-art smart system seamlessly integrates technology, from lock entry to temperature, security and the louvre roof.
