Tucked at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and wrapped in native bush, this 1980s residence has been transformed into a light-filled, future-ready family home. While the original design had character, its disconnected layout and dated finishes no longer suited the needs of a multigenerational household. The renovation redefined flow and function, beginning with a 28sqm ground-floor extension that turned the former main suite into an open-plan living and dining area. Above it, a new waterproofed outdoor terrace now connects to the reconfigured upstairs main bedroom, enhancing indoor-outdoor living and showcasing views down to the Kirikiriroa Stream.
A key move was introducing a central hallway to anchor the ground floor and create a logical spatial sequence. The original living room was converted into a self-contained one-bedroom flat, offering flexibility for extended family or future use. Pink carpets and floral wallpaper gave way to creamy white walls and warm timber flooring. The new kitchen centres around an avocado green marble island with a bespoke dining table — a visual and functional heart of the home. Upstairs, a mezzanine space above the double-height entry now houses a reading and gaming nook. Modern elements now blend with the home’s existing charm, including cedar finishes that tie exterior to interior. The result? A character-rich renovation.
