An additional 27sqm has made a huge impact on the liveability of this home, giving its residents a private wellbeing retreat dedicated to restoration and relaxation. It’s centred around a custom-built sauna, a spa pool and a plunge pool to assist in the relief of stresses, aches and pains. Glass sliders, originally opening to an outdoor deck with spa pool, now access the spa suite from a hallway off the living area. A luxuriously renovated bathroom now has access to the wellness area, as well as the existing gym. The entire facility, which includes a handy kitchenette, is lined in Western Red Cedar for its aromatic and durable qualities. Marble tiling and a stone wall behind the spa pool offset the wood.

Builder knowledge of the property prior to the renovation proved invaluable, offering practical insight to the design team to ensure the extension integrated structurally and aesthetically with the existing fabric. Initial plans to crane a digger over the garage for excavation were changed when removal of the existing patio revealed the work could be undertaken manually. From there backfill was carted in by hand and the foundations and concrete floor were prepped and poured. Framing was stick built and the roof formed up quickly to allow the roofers to waterproof the dwelling as quickly as possible. The happy owners say the success of this therapeutic addition has encouraged them to remain in the property for many years to come.
