Labelling this project as a renovation is a complete understatement of what’s occurred. This is no cosmetic makeover. The work on the Wellington penthouse represents a complete transformation — a seamless fusion of structural renewal and architectural refinement. It also preserves the legacy of the apartment in a building constructed a quarter of a century ago, while positioning it for the future. Reimagining the 390sqm, four-bedroom penthouse high above Wellington Harbour was masterminded by Andrew Sexton Architecture and skilfully executed by the builders, a company no stranger to major awards. The work involved a full structural upgrade and an exterior rebuild to ensure the long-term durability of the penthouse, which enjoys stellar views but is also subject to coastal elements.

Every part of the façade was reconstructed to improve its weather-tightness and thermal performance, while respecting the building’s architectural integrity. The penthouse also has environmental and technology extras: a warm roof system and a smart-home set-up. The interior, featuring three bathrooms and two living rooms, has been reconfigured and refurbished. It’s now light-filled, sophisticated, with improved flow, contemporary finishes, and a calm ambience that’s in tune with its elevated position. Rooms lead out to wide decking, so the owners can sit back and enjoy a home geared for peak performance from its grandstand position.
