There’s a heavy responsibility on builders when renovating such homes, but this team has skilfully introduced contemporary comforts, while maintaining period charm. The architects designed the restoration of the old house, adding an open-plan living area, a first-floor bedroom suite and a 90sqm studio designed as a nod to the stables that dotted the neighbourhood in the 1900s. Given the villa’s status, experienced architecture and construction teams were required as attention to detail — proportions, form and materials used — was crucial.

The result is a 400sqm property enhanced with sensitively designed and built modern additions that will endure for decades to come. Such is the quality of the work that from the street, the villa and its outbuilding appear seamless, with no hint of remodelling. It’s only when you step inside that you realise the scale of the project. The rear extension has a ‘conservatory’ aesthetic, funnelling light into the living areas. Bifold doors open to outdoor zones tailor-made for entertaining. On this floor you’ll also find three bedrooms, a formal lounge, bathroom and laundry. A new staircase leads up to an expansive bedroom suite, with dressing room and ensuite tucked into the existing roof space.
